A Sioux Falls Country Club Wedding

I am always humbled and thrilled to be allowed inside one of a family’s most cherished days. But, when I saw the images of Liz & Zach’s Sioux Falls Country Club wedding from lacijane Photography, I was floored by the powerful impact of getting to be a part of their love story.

Liz & Zach were one of those couples who had to make some really difficult decisions in light of COVID last year. Pulling the plug on their original date was a heart-wrenching decision, but I don’t think they regret it at all. They decided to make it “official” and get married at the beginning of the pandemic, but knew they didn’t want to sacrifice sharing that moment with their nearest and dearest. So, we worked with their amazing vendor group to reschedule their big day and give them the celebration they had been dreaming of. When it was all said and done, I think that postponing gave their wedding and reception an added measure of emotional impact. It turns out that phrase about waiting is true, “The longer you wait for something, the more you will appreciate it.”

Let’s start with the star of the show (other than Liz in that breathtaking dress with custom sleeves!)…the Country Club of Sioux Falls. This venue has it all, ladies and gentlemen! I think photographers would agree that the amazing natural light can’t be beat and lends an incredible airy elegance to the whole space. Top it off with incredible staff and delicious food, and I will be bringing couples back here for years to come!

That gorgeous natural light and elegance allowed us to keep our details and décor small, focusing on items with real “wow” factor. When in doubt, we relied on one of my favorite features-candles! Also, can we take a minute to talk about bringing colored taper candles into your décor?!? A little touch that goes a long way! While it is pretty standard to use the bridesmaid’s bouquets on the head table, I always love to offer alternatives to that idea. Sometimes, like with Liz & Zach’s elevated head table, those bulky flowers might do more to inhibit the view and cause a headache for your photographer. Instead, we used them around the room at other décor focal points-cocktail tables, guestbook table, etc. For other brides, I suggest dropping them in vases for an optional centerpiece. It can be a really great way to stretch your floral budget by thinking of ways to multi-task your floral elements.

It was also so much fun to bring Liz & Zach’s shared hobby of golf into the wedding. I always encourage couples to incorporate their unique love story into their special day. Your wedding shouldn’t look like something from Pinterest or like another wedding, it should be 100% YOU!

There was no denying that this multi-generational celebration was one I will never forget. Liz & Zach’s son Baker was kind of the star of the show. This family’s love for each other was undeniable in so many moments throughout the day. While Baker was a fundamental part of the day, Liz & Zach were also realistic that weddings are really taxing on 2 year olds! They thought ahead and had a babysitter on hand to help wrangle meals, snacks, naps, and transitioning Baker through pictures, dinner and the dance. One of the smartest moves I have seen!

What I learned (beside the fact that I love my vendors!?!)…for my couples who postponed their large celebrations last year-Have hope and get excited! It is going to be more fun and more meaningful than you ever imagined. And, as always, incorporating personal details, focusing on impact rather than quantity or size for décor, and remembering what is truly important at the end of the day will guarantee the best day ever!
